It was springtime, but the night air was crisp and as soon as they stepped outside, Kendra pulled her blazer snug and did up the buttons.
“You cold?” Rick slid his arm around her and drew her into his chest, rubbing his hands up and down her arms.
She tilted her chin up so she could see his face. “Thanks. It was nice today, but when the sun goes down, the temperature drops fast.” She shivered.
“Want my jacket?” His voice vibrated through her body igniting a sultry glow.
“No, thanks. I like this though.” She pressed into his hard chest.
“Want to walk a bit?”
Kendra kept her thoughts off what she wanted to do and said, “Sure. I’ll probably warm up once we get moving.”
Rick kept his arm around her and she felt the steady rhythm of his heart beating against her shoulder. They walked up the shop-lined block, stopping to peer in some of the windows, until they came to a small park at the end of the street. The green expanse was empty of people and they wandered until they found a bench to sit on.
“The stars sure are bright tonight.” Rick stared at the sky.
“You should see them from my place. There’s less light pollution out there and the stars seem bigger and closer.”
Rick’s gaze left the night sky and settled on her. Kendra’s body softened under his study. When he touched her face, the jolt to her system felt like she’d been clipped to the hot end of a set of jumper cables, every nerve ending stood alert, anticipating more. He slid his hand up into her hair until his fingers found the back of her head and pulled her closer. His other hand cupped her throat and he caressed her jaw with his thumb. Rick’s gaze smoothed over her lips and his mouth followed.
A hungry sound rose from her throat and his eyes darted to hers. He smiled that knowing grin she often recalled in her late-night thoughts and he kissed her again. This time, his mouth more insistent. He nibbled, nudging her lips with his and she parted them. He took full advantage of her acquiescence. His tongue tasted like bourbon. Kendra combed her fingers through his short, thick hair and pulled him closer, exploring. The pressure inside her body expanded like a helium balloon.
She edged back to catch her breath. “God…” she whispered.
His lips slid into the feline grin of a lion and his eyes sparked like those of a jungle cat stalking his prey. “I better get you back to your car.” His words floated on the breeze without strength or conviction.
The next move was up to Kendra. With the slightest inclination, she would end up in Rick’s bed. His apartment was only a few blocks away. She leaned in for another taste of him, and he kissed her with an intensity that communicated what he wanted her choice to be. Her body, in complete agreement with his, egged her on, a ravenous demand swirling through her abdomen.
